The Atlantic Provinces Economic Council (APEC) has been a leader in informing and shaping Atlantic Canada’s economy for more than 60 years. As the premiere economic think-tank in Atlantic Canada, APEC’s strength is in the quality of its research, depth of insight and collaboration with stakeholders in fostering a deep understanding of the most pressing issues impacting the region in a rapidly changing, disruptive world.

Through its research, publications, conferences, commentary and policy advice, APEC provides patrons, members and stakeholders with relevant independent research and analysis and serves as a convener and knowledge aggregator.

APEC is at the forefront in shaping conversations, informing policy options and advocating for sound decisions. The organization is evolving its model to meet the needs of its stakeholders for timely and thoughtful research and analysis and collaboration. APEC recognizes the opportunity to create value for both private and pubic organizations to accelerate economic growth.

Founded in 1954 as an independent, non-government, not-for-profit think-tank, APEC delivers its mandate through membership, funded research, events and sponsorships. Its membership includes individuals, small and large companies, labour groups, academic institutions, municipalities and government agencies.

Reporting to the Chair of the Board of Directors, the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides the vision, strategic direction, financial management and overall organizational leadership necessary to advance APEC’s mandate. Working in close partnership with an engaged and influential Board of Directors and supported by a talented internal team, the President & CEO fosters trusting, collaborative partnerships with patrons, members, Atlantic Canadian provincial governments, senior public officials at the federal, provincial and municipal levels, media, labour organizations, the academic community and other research organizations.

The President & CEO is a visionary leader who sees opportunities for success in Atlantic Canada and is passionate about identifying and bridging knowledge and research gaps to fuel future growth.

The successful candidate leads and is directly engaged in delivering a relevant policy research agenda, including securing funding and actively engaging stakeholders and members. The President & CEO executes a comprehensive strategic plan by listening, learning, and sound decision-making. A proactive relationship builder, they are adept at developing strong partnerships with key stakeholders, both internal and external to the organization to expand influence and support for evidence-based decisions.

The successful candidate has a post graduate degree in Economics, Public Administration, or a related field and at least 10 years of executive leadership experience, preferably in Economics, Research and/or Public Policy. He or she will have a deep understanding of and affinity for the future of Atlantic Canada and a demonstrated track record of success in policy analysis and research, complimented with superior analytical, listening, and organizational skill and a track record in effectively delivering funded research programs.
