A co-educational, non-for-profit independent school of approximately 580 students from Junior Primary through to Grade Twelve, situated in the south end of Halifax, the Halifax Grammar School is the leading and largest independent school in Atlantic Canada.

Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Operations oversees the non-academic operations of the organization, aligning people, resources and driving excellence to support continued growth and impact.

As a member of Senior Management Team, the Director of Operations works with the Head of School, Board of Directors and the Senior Management Team to set the strategic direction and vision for the organization and is responsible for operationalizing and delivering on the goals set out in the strategic plan. The Director of Operations is a visionary leader and coach with strong emotional intelligence, providing guidance and support to a talented team, with overall responsibility for Finance, Facilities, Procurement, Risk Management, Food Service, and Security. An inclusive leader, the Director of Operations will possess strong interpersonal, management, and team building skills. They will be accountable for driving alignment and operational efficiencies, identifying, and managing risk, exploring, and managing opportunities and developing and cultivating high performing teams.

The ideal candidate has a related undergraduate degree coupled with ten years of experience in finance, facilities, or operations management with a minimum of three years at the senior level. The Director of Operations will have experience leading strategic initiatives and oversight of budgets and cross-functional teams. The candidate will be an exceptional people leader with a strong ability to communicate and develop trust. A professional designation and knowledge of information technology and/or risk management are considered assets as is experience within independent schools or the education sector.
