The Director, Corporate Affairs is a new role at NSLC. Reporting to the Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs, the Director functions as the Corporate Secretary and leads the organization’s policy, privacy, permit office, and procurement functions.
As the primary advisor on corporate governance matters, the Director is responsible for ensuring strong governance practices, systems and processes are in place within the organization and with the Board’s ongoing compliance obligations. They are responsible for keeping the Board and senior leadership team informed of their legal and fiduciary responsibilities, while proactively monitoring for new and changing legislation and regulations that could impact the organization. The Director also provides support and guidance to the Executive Administrator to the Board in the execution of their activities supporting corporate governance. As a people leader to the policy, privacy, permit office, and procurement teams, the Director provides daily leadership oversight and ensures that appropriate policy, privacy, and records management frameworks are in place within the organization. The leader also serves as a key point of contact with the Province on policy and regulatory matters and provides guidance and support on legal matters.
The ideal candidate has a law or business degree, preferably at the post-graduate level, coupled with at least seven years of relatable experience spent in legal, policy, privacy, or corporate governance matters. Experience spent in a retail, government or crown corporation environment is preferred, as is experience in government relations. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience effectively interacting with Boards and leadership teams, and optimally brings direct experience as a Board member to the role. With responsibility for leading a team, the successful candidate is a proven people leader, mentor and coach who has demonstrated their ability to foster a positive team culture. They bring business acumen and a natural ability to appreciate, relate to, and advise in a retail crown corporation environment. With exceptional communication abilities coupled with savvy relationship management skills, the Director is adept at influencing, negotiating and building productive, long-term relationships with key internal and external customers and partners.
