Deputy Chief Administrative Officer - City of Charlottetown (Filled)

The beautiful City of Charlottetown is located on the south shore of Prince Edward Island, just off the eastern shore of Canada, in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, separated from the mainland by the Northumberland Strait.

Charlottetown is the capital city of Prince Edward Island, and is Canada’s “Birthplace of Confederation”, after the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference that led to Confederation. Charlottetown is rich in history and culture. Many of the provincial and federal offices, and health and educational institutions are located in the city. Charlottetown is located within a 60-minute drive of all major points of access to and from the Island. The City of Charlottetown encompasses the provincial ridings of Sherwood-Hillsborough, Parkdale-Belvedere, Charlottetown-Kings Square, Charlottetown-Rochford Square, Charlottetown-Spring Park, Stanhope-East Royalty, and Winsloe-West Royalty, and is part of the federal electoral district of Charlottetown.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (Deputy CAO) supervises the Departments of Engineering, Public Works, Parks & Recreation, Utilities, Water and Sewer, Infrastructure, and Asset Management Departments of the City of Charlottetown. The Deputy CAO provides highly effective advice and support to the Chief Administrative Officer relating to the development and implementation of policies and strategies that address the unique qualities and needs of the City of Charlottetown. As a senior leader of the organization, the successful candidate provides forward thinking leadership, technical and managerial expertise to guide the organization in delivering the programs and services as identified by Council. The work is performed with a wide latitude for independent judgment and action under the overall direction of the Chief Administrative Officer.

The ideal candidate has a minimum of 7 years of progressive senior leadership experience working in municipal, provincial, or federal government and/or a crown corporation, coupled with a post-secondary degree in Public Administration or a related field. A Master’s degree or P.Eng. is considered an asset. The Deputy CAO has demonstrated experience leading teams and developing and implementing major programs or projects, preferably in a unionized environment. They are a strong communicator and relationship builder and are comfortable in collaborative and open discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
