The Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia (WCB Nova Scotia) is the province’s provider of workplace injury insurance. Working with employers, workers and partners across the province, the organization protects Nova Scotians from the impact of workplace injuries through progressive return-to-work programs and by informing, inspiring and promoting healthy and safe workplaces. When an injury occurs, the organization supports those whose lives it touches, fostering a timely and safe return to work. They also provide caring, compassionate support over the long term in the wake of workplace tragedy.
Today is an exciting time in WCB Nova Scotia’s history as it charts a new transformational path. Leveraging significant investments in people, processes, and technology over the past several years, the organization is committed to and focused on working differently in the future to drive greater customer experience, innovation, opportunity, and outcomes for Nova Scotians.
The inaugural role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is a catalyst in propelling the organization’s ability to leverage the systems and technologies required to achieve transformative outcomes now and into the future. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, and as a member of the Executive team, the CTO not only oversees WCB Nova Scotia’s technology function, but contributes to the organization’s overall strategy and success in achieving the organization’s new Strategic Plan. They are a technology-savvy executive, passionate about technology enablement and responsible for developing and implementing sustainable technology strategy in alignment with the organization’s goals.
An inclusive and supportive people leader, the CTO is skilled in fostering engaged, high performing teams. Customer-centric and relationship focused, they will partner with other senior business leaders to identify opportunities to achieve business objectives and meet KPIs, innovate in the delivery of products and services, develop information capabilities, improve operational performance in the organization and deliver exceptional service.
The ideal candidate has several years of executive-level experience including at least 10 years of progressive leadership experience leading and contributing to technology strategy and change in medium to large, complex organizations. Experience or a deep understanding of employee benefits, insurance or healthcare is an asset. The CTO brings 15 years of demonstrated experience managing technology infrastructure, managing AMS vendors in an outsourced service model, and vendor relationships, as well as experience in cyber security, data management, governance and analytics, cloud migration, and digital transformation. An authentic and inclusive people leader, they have a track record of building and developing high performing teams and they have a bias for innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate has an educational background in computer science, information technology, and/or business at the post-secondary or graduate level; a master’s degree is considered an asset. They have superior EQ and communication skills and an innate ability to cultivate strong relationships and partnerships.
