Canada’s Ocean Supercluster (“OSC”) is an innovative and imaginative organization that is a catalyst for Canada to achieve sustainable economic growth in ocean-based industries, while preserving the health and protection of one of the country’s greatest natural resources.
The OSC collaborates with investors and partners from across ocean industries to develop and commercialize innovative solutions and create growth opportunities within Canada’s ocean economy, delivering cross-sectoral solutions, building a strong global ocean brand, and increasing Canada’s ocean workforce.
The Ocean Supercluster creates new business opportunities for large-scale companies (anchor firms) as well as small to medium size entities (SMEs). It promotes and facilitates new partnerships between businesses, research institutions, and academia, helping them to undertake new business initiatives, develop and market innovative products, and become part of new and existing supply chains. OSC supports organizations to be globally competitive, expand into new markets and to significantly grow the ocean economy.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”), the Chief Growth and Investment Officer (“CGIO”), works closely with the CEO to promote strategic growth and investment, and provide oversight of OSC’s investment portfolio. The CGIO actively engages with partners and experts on a global basis. Together with their team, they lead the Technology Leadership Program, an overarching program designed to strengthen the partnerships between SMEs, large firms, and academic and research institutions.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional relationship leader, commercially focused with a strategic mindset. They have a track record of success in defining and delivering on a strong value proposition and have successfully led strategic initiatives to support commercially viable and scalable investments. They understand the value of research and innovation to transform technical industries on a global scale. They promote the opportunity to invest in the ocean economy. The CGIO has a minimum of 10 years’ senior leadership experience in one or more roles focused on growth, innovation, technology, strategy and or investor relations along experience in dynamic, complex, project-based environments with multiple diverse stakeholders. An MBA or CA/CPA designation would be an asset as would experience in the oceans sector. In keeping with the philosophy and values of the OSC, this role is open to a remote/hybrid model with a flexible schedule.
